Lessons learned:
My biggest problem with partner dances? Is
that one needs a partner to dance with... and I
failed absolutely every bravery check last night.

Calling someone *at home* to check on possible
fraudulent activity on a credit card? Could be
a problem if (1) the person is on the road/at the
store at the time of the charge(s) being made and
    (2) the power at the house is off for two days...

A look of almost total chaos? Can mean that progress
is being made, but if you're the one creating the chaos,
all it looks like from inside is a bigger and bigger mess.

However, new and improved? Sometimes, just isn't.

I shouldn't be this tired, but? I've kinda had it.
Mark today off as done. Bring tomorrow on... but
only after I've had some more sleep, please.

    Wherever that is, that is.

    Thank you, Thomas Dolby.

That is *such* an awesome song -- one of several on that album. Now I need to hear "Radio Silence" again...

There's a CD of just "Submarine" remixes, which is very cool stuff. More importantly, Dolby is now doing music again! I was absolutely ecstatic to find that out because I never got to see him live in the 80s - but he's done at least 3 different tours since 2006: the first one was solo, kinda getting his feet wet as an onstage DJ/electronic composer (some podcasts available at http://www.thomasdolby.com/soleinhabitant/); then one sharing billing with similar "electronic artist" BT; and the last one being backed up by analog musicians :) from San Francisco's Jazz Mafia Horns. (Yes, major fangirl here.)

Yes, he's awesome. I've seen him in concert twice; once at the old 9:30 club around the time of "Aliens Ate My Buick." Then again about two years ago when he came to the Birchmere.

On your other point about the credit card companies, I agree that those phone calls don't make any sense if you're out of town when you make the purchase. Then the problem is that your card is put on hold and you try to use it again and don't know why it's not being approved.

Ah, so you were at the Sole Inhabitant: Birchmere show too! It was really fun watching him be so endearingly nervous and working out the performance kinks onstage. :) I do envy you having seen him at the old 9:30 doing a tour for Aliens! Sadly, I didn't have money back in those days to see anybody...

Yeah, the whole credit card thing is extra special annoying because: first I was trying to buy gas at a gas station inside DC (where I don't usually go to buy gas) on my way down to Dupont Circle (where I don't usually go other than on the Metro -- you live downtown so you know what parking is like!) to buy a new bed frame. (Oh, and I'd already made this same exact trip earlier in the week, but the store closed early for an emergency.) The gas purchase took two tries, but it went through... but apparently, that may have somehow alerted the fraud department, so the bed purchase did not. :( Thankfully I did have another credit card with me so I didn't have to make a third trip, but I kinda wanted cash back rather than hotel points? *shrug* Me, I just assumed that they weren't swiping the card properly - the magnetic stripe on that one does seem to be kind of touchy - it never dawned on me that they would be blocking it. But, all's well that ends with me spending my weekend cleaning my bedroom, sleeping on the sofa, and fixing the toilet. Oh wait...

That CD (all Submarine) sounds cool.

Sorry the dance didn't go too well. It does take a bit of oomph to get in the habit of asking. Was at least the people-watching good?

Yeah, sometimes I'm pretty brave and ask quite a bit, or I can push myself to, and the last couple dances I'd been to were good experiences, so I wasn't expecting to feel _quite_ so isolated. :/

Sadly, trying to watch other people dance was just making me feel even more inadequate (and angry with myself for not being braver, etc.), so I ended up leaving way early. Well, at least it meant that I got to sleep earlier...

Bye bye empire, empire bye bye

A great song - I'll need to buy some CD's as I think B got the Dolby.

Anyway, here's that link for you:
