Excuses are for things you don't
want to do, or are afraid you can't do.
I look for opportunities in everything.
and hold it in my heart
for more than just a fleeting moment.
I will let it nurture me.
I treat all problems as
opportunities to be creative,
knowing that my qualities of leadership
are determined by the creativity I use
in every part of my life.
I experience all my personal relationships
with great consciousness.
I am a very sensual and passionate person.

- Last year, I sprained my left ankle
just before Labor Day. A very bad sprain. :(
This caused me to miss swing dancing
and tae kwon do practice for several
weeks. When I did try to go back, I
know I was compensating a lot to put
as little weight/strain on the ankle
as possible.
It started to get better... and then
it stopped getting better. So, I got
up my nerve and went to the doctor.
I wore a stiff brace for several more
weeks, and did physical therapy for a
month. I worked with the same physical
therapists who helped with my PCL pull
a few years back. They are great, and
I am very grateful for their knowledge
and good cheer. Thanks to Jennifer and
Christina for making 7:30 AM sessions
something to look forward to.
When I finally got back to working out
full-speed on the rehabbed ankle, I had
a better understanding of balancing and
weight transfer as it affected me (and
my relationship to my partner). I tried
to apply this consciously to my dancing.
Since then I have had several people I
dance with on a regular basis notice a
positive change in my dancing.
Lessons learned:
Effective movement always begins in the
center and is then expressed outwards.
I can be responsible for my own weight
and yet still maintain good connection
with my partner.
Dancing is fun. Dancing well is great fun.
I can now do a pretty decent swivel. ;)
These are not just lessons in dancing,
these are lessons in life.
Yes, even the swivel. ;)
